Join Buddhist prison chaplain and author Dean Sluyter for this meditation and discussion. What is distraction really? Do our usual notions of distraction, and our ways of dealing with it, help or hinder our meditation? And could cutting through those notions expand our ability to experience love and appreciation?

Dean Sluyter (rhymes with "lighter") has taught natural meditation throughout the U.S. since 1970. He leads the Dzogchen Center's New Jersey practice group and is a Buddhist prison chaplain for the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Dean teaches at The Pingry School, where, as the developer of the Literature of Enlightenment program, he is a leading innovator in the use of meditative techniques in education. He is a film critic for Tricycle: The Buddhist Review and the author of three books, the most recent being Cinema Nirvana: Enlightenment Lessons from the Movies. Dean has given talks and workshops throughout the U.S. at such venues as the Chautauqua Institution and New York Open Center and has spoken at a number of colleges, including Columbia, Rutgers, Wesleyan, and the University of Pennsylvania. He has appeared in various media, including Oprah & Friends Radio and National Public Radio. His work has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly, which called his writing "joyously entertaining."
